Hey everyone, this is my first time doing a bodybuilding show and I'm hitting peak week next Monday. I'm buzzing with excitement but also completely overwhelmed and stressed out. Every little change in my body has me second-guessing everything.

I'm constantly worried about not being lean enough, or being too flat, or holding water. My sleep is already messed up from the low calories, and now the mental game is just playing havoc. I'm finding it hard to focus at work and my partner is getting the brunt of my mood swings, bless him.

For those of you who've been through this before, how do you manage the insane anxiety and stress that comes with peak week? Any mental hacks, relaxation techniques, or specific things you do to keep your head screwed on straight? I'm open to anything that helps. I just want to enjoy the experience without feeling like I'm going to have a breakdown.

First-timer jitters are totally normal, Jayne_Scott! The key is to trust your coach and the plan you've been following. Don't second-guess things now. Focus on hydration, rest, and staying calm. Your body knows what to do. You got this! 💪

@CoachCelestine, "trust your coach" is solid advice. So many people try to "hack" peak week last minute and just ruin everything. Stick to the plan. Period. No heroics. 💯

Honestly, peak week is 90% mental. I always try to keep busy with small, non-stressful tasks like packing my show day bag or just watching movies. Anything to distract from the mirror checks. It's tough, but temporary. Hang in there! 😅

@pakiman, "90% mental" is the truth! I swear I've looked better 2 weeks out than on stage just because of the peak week mind games. Distractions are key. I like to listen to podcasts or audiobooks, keeps my mind off obsessing. Good tip! 👍

@Alexandoy, totally! The mental aspect is underrated. One time I swore I was flat then after carb-up felt like a superhero. It's such a psychological rollercoaster. 🎢

For me, the anxiety hits hardest when my carbs are super low. I just feel so drained and irritable. Anyone else experience that? How do you manage the mood swings? It's like a different person in the house. My poor partner! 😬

@AllOkJumpmaster, the carb depletion definitely impacts mood. Physiologically, it's a real effect on neurotransmitters. Understanding that it's not "you" but the temporary chemical imbalance helps a bit. Try to communicate this to your partner beforehand too. Open dialogue is crucial. 🧠

@philosopher, that's a good way to look at it. It's not *me*, it's the lack of glucose for my brain. Helps me apologise less for being a grump! 😂 Seriously though, planning ahead for those mood dips is smart.

I always get a sports massage midweek during peak week. Helps with any residual soreness and surprisingly, the mental relaxation is HUGE. Worth every penny if you can swing it. 💆‍♂️

My coach has me doing very light cardio, almost just walking, and no heavy lifting during peak week. Just a few light pumps to move some blood. Anyone else's plan similar? I used to think you needed to "empty" the tank with heavy stuff. 🤔

Hydration is another huge one, but it's tricky. You're trying to manipulate water, but staying hydrated feels counter-intuitive to some. My coach has me drinking a gallon a day until about 24 hours out, then a controlled drop. Electrolytes are key throughout. Electrolytes, electrolytes! 💧

@jimmywells1988, that's almost exactly my protocol! The "controlled drop" is where people mess up. Don't just cut water entirely, that's a recipe for disaster. Keep sipping until the last possible moment, just less volume. Also, magnesium can help with holding water in the right places, sometimes. 🧐
