I'm a minimalist when it comes to gym gear. One pair of shoes does it all for me. Metcons are good enough. Don't believe the hype that you *need* special shoes for every lift.

@PrinceVegeta While Metcons *can* do it all, dedicated lifters provide a measurable advantage for certain movements. It's not just hype, it's biomechanics. Your form and safety can improve.

TYR L-1s are definitely heavier than Metcons. You feel the weight on your feet, but that's part of the stability. It's a trade-off I'm happy to make for heavy squats.

Any thoughts on how the TYR L-1s handle deadlifts? I usually go barefoot or in Chucks, but considering these for the extra stability if it truly translates.

For deadlifts, I'd still prefer a flat sole. The elevated heel of the TYR L-1 isn't ideal for deadlifts as it increases the range of motion slightly. Best for squats and Oly lifts.

I use both daily. Metcon 9 for my morning bootcamp, TYR L-1s for my evening Olympic lifting session. Couldn't live without either. Different tools for different jobs, as others have said.

I'm curious about the material quality. My Metcons always wear out at the toe box after a year. Are the TYRs built to last longer in that regard?

The L-1s are stiff, no doubt. But that's their purpose. I don't wear them outside the gym; they're strictly performance gear. My Metcons are my all-dayers.

Anyone here use their Metcons for heavy deadlifts and find them good enough? I'm not ready to buy another pair of shoes just for one lift.

Honestly, the difference is negligible for most casual lifters. If you're not competing or pushing near max lifts regularly, the Metcons are perfectly fine. Don't overthink it.
