Okay, so my old fitness tracker is on its last legs, and I'm ready to upgrade to something serious for my endurance training. I'm talking about accurate GPS, reliable heart rate monitoring, long battery life, and good metrics for tracking progress in running and cycling.

I've narrowed it down to the usual suspects: Garmin, Apple Watch, and Coros. I know Apple Watch is great for smart features, but I'm worried about battery life on longer runs/rides and if its GPS is truly on par with dedicated sports watches. Garmin (like the Fenix or Forerunner series) seems to be the gold standard for endurance, but some models can be pricey.

Then there's Coros, which I've heard good things about for battery life and GPS, often at a slightly better price point. For those of you who are serious about your training, which brand/model do you swear by and why? What features are absolutely essential for you, and which ones are just nice-to-haves? Any specific models you'd recommend or warn against?

For serious endurance, Garmin is the undisputed champion, IMO. Their GPS accuracy is top-tier, and the battery life on something like a Forerunner or Fenix is insane. You can track multi-day events without charging. Apple Watch just can't compete there for ultra-distances.

Durability is a big one for me. I'm clumsy and beat up my gear. Which of these can truly take a beating on the trails, rocks, and mud without cracking or failing?

Garmin, hands down, for durability. I've taken my Fenix through mud runs, rock climbing, accidental drops, and it just keeps on ticking. The sapphire glass and titanium bezels on some models are seriously tough. Apple Watch looks nice but feels more fragile for hardcore trail abuse. Coros is solid too, but my vote's Garmin here. 💪

I've been using Coros for about a year now, and its HR accuracy has been surprisingly good for me. Even during tempo runs and threshold intervals, it seems pretty consistent. Not perfect, sure, but a massive improvement over older optical sensors. YMMV, obviously.

What about GPS accuracy? My Apple Watch sometimes struggles in densely tree-covered trails or in areas with tall buildings. For endurance training, precise distance and pace are non-negotiable. Which brand offers the most reliable GPS tracking?

@Jayne_Scott, Garmin's multi-band GPS is really next-level. I ran a marathon in a city with skyscrapers and my track was spot on, no weird zig-zags. Coros is good too, but Garmin edges it out for accuracy, especially on challenging terrain. Worth the investment if you're serious about precise tracking. 🛰️

If you're already deep in the Apple ecosystem, the Apple Watch Ultra is a compelling argument. The seamless integration with health apps, iPhone, and other devices is a huge plus. For a lot of people, that convenience outweighs some of the sport-specific benefits of Garmin or Coros.

@Alexandoy, I get the Apple Watch appeal for ecosystem convenience, but for serious endurance it feels like a compromise. It's a smartwatch first, sports watch second. Garmin/Coros are purpose-built for athletes, and that focus really shows in the data and features. You just can't beat that dedicated focus. 💪

@PumpChaser, I agree it's a smartwatch first, but the convenience of instant notifications, Apple Pay, and Siri during a run is a huge plus for me. It's a different kind of 'serious' – serious about integrating fitness into a connected lifestyle without needing two devices. 📱

Honestly, it often comes down to personal preference and what ecosystem you're already in. Garmin is the gold standard for many, but Coros is closing the gap fast. Apple Watch is great for general fitness but still a step behind for serious endurance tracking, IMO.

Nobody talks about the user interface enough. Trying to navigate menus mid-run or mid-swim can be a nightmare if it's not intuitive. Which one has the best UI/UX for actual training, not just daily wear?

@Milligan, Coros UI is much simpler and less cluttered than Garmin's, especially on the watch itself. Garmin can feel overwhelming with all the options, but it's powerful once you learn it. For quick, intuitive access to training data on the fly, Coros often wins for me. 🏃‍♀️💨

Any thoughts on data privacy with these brands? Who actually owns my training data? Are they selling it or using it for their own purposes? 🤔 Important consideration in this day and age, especially with all the personal health metrics.

Ultimately, you need to define 'serious endurance training' for yourself. Are you an ultrarunner needing max battery, a triathlete needing multisport, or a data nerd wanting all the physiological metrics? Each brand has strengths, and the 'best' is truly subjective to your specific needs and priorities. Do your research and pick what fits *you*. 🙌
