Anyone in Texas following the 'Starting Strength' program?
Starting Strength is a fantastic program. I have been running it for about 6 months now here in Houston. Seeing some great gains, especially on my squat and deadlift. Anyone else in the area finding good gyms for it?
I am not in Texas but I wanted to chime in and say SS is solid. Make sure you are really focusing on form, especially when the weights get heavy. That is where most people go wrong.
Hello fellow lifters! I am a coach in Dallas and I occasionally have clients on Starting Strength. It is a great foundational program. For those in Texas, look for powerlifting gyms or strength-focused CrossFit boxes that offer open gym time. They often have better equipment for the main lifts.
I started SS about a year ago and it transformed my training. I am in Austin, Texas. There are a few good places here, but many commercial gyms do not have proper barbells or enough plates. Finding a dedicated weightlifting space makes a huge difference.
I am in San Antonio and I have been doing Starting Strength for three months. My strength has gone up considerably. The hardest part for me was getting past the initial soreness and sticking to the linear progression. It is tough but rewarding.
Has anyone found a good online coach who specialises in SS that is based in Texas? Sometimes a few in-person sessions can really dial in form, even if you are mostly self-coaching.
I know the book advocates against too much accessory work, but has anyone successfully integrated a little extra volume, maybe for arms or core, without derailing the main progression? I am a few months in and feeling good.
I am not in Texas but I am following this thread closely. I have been considering Starting Strength for myself. The linear progression seems very appealing for a beginner.
I am in El Paso and I go to a small independent gym that is perfect for SS. No frills, just barbells, plates, and racks. It is sometimes hard to find those gems among all the globo gyms.
Anyone using the Starting Strength app to log their workouts? I find it super helpful for tracking progression and calculating weights. It also has videos for form checks.
I am a relatively new lifter in Houston. I have just started reading the SS book. It feels a bit overwhelming with all the technical details, but also very thorough. Looking forward to putting it into practice.
For anyone starting out, do not be afraid to deload if you stall or your form breaks down. It is part of the process, especially on SS. Sometimes taking a small step back lets you make bigger leaps forward.
