I am extremely frustrated right now because I have been in a 500 calorie deficit for three weeks and the scale has not moved at all. I am weighing all my food and tracking everything in an app. I am even accounting for the oil I use for cooking.

I am starting to wonder if my metabolism is just broken. I am 40 years old and I live in the US. I am doing cardio three times a week and lifting three times a week. I should be losing at least a pound a week according to the math.

Is it possible that I am retaining water or is there something else going on? I have heard about the whoosh effect where the weight suddenly drops after a long plateau. Has anyone else experienced this? I really do not want to lower my calories even more.
