I have been feeling very wired but tired lately and I think my cortisol levels are staying high too late into the evening. I am comparing valerian root vs ashwagandha for reducing cortisol before bed. I am in the US and I need something that helps me transition from work mode to sleep mode.

Valerian root smells pretty terrible but I have heard it is a powerful sedative. Ashwagandha seems more like an adaptogen that helps with overall stress. I am wondering if stacking them is a good idea or if one is clearly better for late night relaxation.

Does anyone have a preference between these two? I am looking for something that won't make me feel groggy in the morning because I usually hit the gym at 6am. I would love to hear how you manage your stress levels after a long day of work and training!
