I always try to stretch after my gym sessions but I am wondering if I am doing it correctly. I am looking for the top 5 post workout stretching mistakes to avoid so I am not wasting my time. I have heard that stretching a cold muscle is a bad idea but what about stretching right after a heavy lifting session?

I usually just hold a few positions for ten seconds and then move on. I am wondering if I should be holding them for longer or if I should be focusing on specific muscle groups. I have also heard that stretching too intensely can actually cause more damage to the muscle fibers when they are already stressed from the workout.

What are the most common errors you see people making with their flexibility work? I want to make sure I am actually improving my range of motion and helping my recovery. I am in the UK and I am trying to take my training more seriously this year. Any advice would be great!
