I am struggling to hit my calorie goals in this heat in Texas. I need some suggestions for the top 10 high calorie foods for easy off season weight gain that are not just junk food. I am tired of eating mountains of dry rice and I need some more calorie dense options that are easy on the digestion.

My current list includes nut butters and avocados but I need more variety. I have started adding olive oil to my shakes and eating more whole eggs instead of just whites. I find that liquid calories are much easier to get down when I am not hungry.

What are your go to foods when you are struggling to eat enough? I am looking for things that provide a good balance of micronutrients as well as calories. If you have any high calorie meal prep recipes please share them here as I am desperate to keep the scale moving up.

Hey TexasTank, I know the feeling! For high-calorie, clean gains, I always lean on good quality nuts and nut butters. Almond butter, cashew butter, and even macadamia nuts are great. Just a few spoonfuls can add hundreds of calories. Throw 'em in a shake or on some oats.

@ArnoldS, that's a solid shout! I've been doing the same with peanut butter. Sometimes I'll even blend some in with a banana and a scoop of whey for a quick 800-calorie blast. Works a treat.

@PumpChaser, what kind of whey do you use for your shakes? And do you add anything else to get to that 800-calorie mark or is it just those three?

Whole milk, man. Easily digestible for most, and you can chug a litre or two a day without feeling too full. Mix in some chocolate syrup for extra calories and it's practically a dessert. Perfect for when it's hot and you don't want a heavy meal.

Liquid calories are your best friend in that Texas heat, for real. Think high-calorie smoothies. Oats, whey, whole milk, a banana, some nut butter, maybe a bit of coconut oil. You can easily get 1000+ calories in a single shake and it goes down easier than solid food when you're sweating.

Totally agree with Push50 about liquid calories. My go-to is 2 scoops mass gainer, 2 cups whole milk, a banana, a big spoonful of peanut butter, and a handful of spinach (you won't even taste it). It's a lifesaver.

@ShakeKing, that's a solid concoction! I sometimes throw in a bit of flax or chia seeds too for some extra healthy fats and fibre. Every little bit helps.

Don't overlook healthy fats from things like fatty fish (salmon, mackerel) and avocados. A whole avocado can be 300-400 calories on its own, and super nutrient-dense. Works great in salads or just smashed on toast.

While aiming for high calories, make sure you're still hitting quality macros. It's easy to gain weight, but hard to gain *lean* weight without excessive fat. Focus on nutrient-dense options, not just calorie bombs.

@philosopher, I get what you're saying, but sometimes you just need to eat to grow. Hyper-focusing on 'clean' can make hitting calories even harder, especially for hard gainers. There's a balance.

@BulkOrBust, I'm not saying eat nothing but broccoli. But prioritizing whole foods and being mindful of fat gain helps in the long run. 'Clean' doesn't mean boring, it means effective and sustainable. You can still incorporate some higher-calorie treats, but let the bulk of your diet be quality.

Dried fruits are super underrated for calories. Dates, raisins, apricots... a small handful is a lot of sugar and quick energy. Plus, granola is great for sprinkling on yogurt or just eating by the handful.

Just add oils to everything. Seriously. Drizzle olive oil over your pasta, rice, salads. Cook with coconut oil or avocado oil. A tablespoon of olive oil is 120 calories and barely changes the taste of a meal.

@Dragustav, preach! I do that with my rice and chicken bowls. Just a glug of extra virgin olive oil and it's an easy couple hundred calories. Also great for scrambled eggs.

Full-fat dairy, folks! Full-fat Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, hard cheeses. They're packed with protein and calories. Greek yogurt with some honey and granola is a fantastic high-calorie snack.

Any tips on meal timing for weight gain when it's super hot? I find myself just not hungry during the day, then gorging at night. Should I force smaller, more frequent meals?

@HeatStruggler, yes, smaller, more frequent meals can definitely help. Also, focus your heaviest meals around your workout or in the cooler parts of the day. Liquid calories (like the shakes mentioned) are crucial for those mid-day hunger slumps.

Red meat, especially fattier cuts like ribeye or ground beef (80/20). It's dense, packed with protein and calories, and satisfying. Doesn't take up too much volume either, so you can eat a good amount without feeling overly stuffed.

@Zigurd, good call on the red meat. What's the best way to cook it to maximize calories? Grilling vs pan-frying with butter or oil?

@MeatheadMike, definitely pan-frying or searing in butter or a good cooking oil like avocado or coconut oil will add more calories than grilling. You get that extra fat from the cooking medium soaking into the meat.

Whole eggs. Eat a dozen a day if you can. Super cheap, versatile, and complete protein with healthy fats. Scramble 'em, fry 'em, boil 'em. Never get tired of eggs.

@MuscleMeccaCrew, +1 on eggs! Scrambled with some cheese and a bit of heavy cream? That's a serious calorie boost right there.

Don't forget the basics: rice and potatoes. They're not super calorie-dense per bite, but you can eat huge portions of them. A big bowl of rice or a couple of baked potatoes with butter and sour cream can easily add up.

@CarbLover, agreed. Sweet potatoes are also fantastic and full of micronutrients. Mash them with some butter and a dash of cinnamon for a tasty, high-calorie side.

Ultimately, consistency is key. Find foods you enjoy that are high in calories and easy to consume. Don't make eating a chore, especially when it's hot. Liquids, small frequent meals, and calorie-dense additions to your existing meals will make a huge difference.
