I am trying to decide between the Texas Method and Madcow 5x5 for my next training block. I have reached the end of my novice gains and I need a program that has a more sophisticated approach to volume and intensity.

The Texas Method seems very intense with that 5x5 volume day on Monday followed by a max effort day on Friday. Madcow seems a bit more gradual with the ramping sets. I am a bit older so I am not sure if I can recover from the high volume day of the Texas Method as easily as a younger lifter could.

Which of these programs gave you better strength gains? I am looking to improve my squat and deadlift primarily. I have heard that the Texas Method is a bit of a grind but very effective if you can survive it. Would love to hear some comparisons from those who have tried both.
