I have been dealing with some mild sciatica for a few weeks now. It is not debilitating but it is definitely there. I am wondering if it is safe to keep squatting or if I am just making things worse. I have noticed that if I keep the weight light and focus on my bracing it does not flare up too much.

Are there any specific squat variations that are better for people with nerve issues? I have heard that front squats or goblet squats might be safer because they keep the torso more upright. I am also avoiding any movements that involve a lot of spinal flexion like heavy good mornings.

I would love to hear from anyone who has trained through sciatica. Did you have to change your technique or did you just lower the intensity for a while? I do not want to stop lifting but I also do not want to end up needing surgery.
