I have noticed some of the heavy benchers at my gym in New Jersey wearing a lifting belt during their sets. I always thought belts were just for squats and deadlifts so I am wondering should you wear a belt during bench press sessions? I have tried it once and it felt a bit strange but I did feel more stable.

The argument seems to be that it helps you maintain a better arch and provides a more solid base to push from. I have also heard that it can help with leg drive. However I do not want to look like a tool if it is not actually beneficial.

Do you use a belt for your bench press? I am curious if it has helped you increase your numbers or if it is just a matter of personal preference. I am currently benching 275 and I am looking for any way to break through to three plates.
