I am trying to decide between Bikini and Figure for my show in Manchester. I have been practicing the mandatory poses for both and the difference in posture is huge. Figure requires a lot more width and that classic X frame while Bikini is all about the glute tie in and a softer presentation.

I have been looking at suits from Muscle Dazzle and the Figure suits are much more ornate. I feel like I have the muscle mass for Figure but I am not sure if I can master the quarter turns. The side pose in Figure is particularly difficult for me to hold without looking stiff.

Which division do you think is more forgiving for a beginner? I love the look of Figure but the posing seems much more demanding on the back and shoulders. I would love to hear from any ladies who have switched between the two divisions.

You're spot on, NorthernLass! The posture for Bikini is much more relaxed and 'glam' focused, whereas Figure is all about hitting those powerful, strong lines and showcasing muscle definition. It's a huge shift in stage presence.

Yeah, Figure mandatories really emphasize the V-taper and shoulder-to-waist ratio. Bikini is more about overall shape and flow. I'd say pick the one that naturally highlights your physique's strengths.

Totally agree with @GymRatUK. Your natural physique should guide you. If you've got amazing shoulders and back, Figure might be the way to go. If it's more about curves and presentation, Bikini.

For Figure, you absolutely need to nail the quarter turns, especially the front and back double bicep poses. Judges are looking for symmetry and conditioning. Bikini is more about that 'hourglass' shape and less about individual muscle groups popping.

@AnimalLifter, you mentioned the back double bicep for Figure. What about the side poses? I find the side tricep a killer for showing off conditioning.

Side poses are crucial for Figure, @BigArvin. The side chest and side tricep definitely highlight muscle density and striations if you're conditioned right. It's about showing off those smaller details.

I tried both, and honestly, Bikini felt more natural for my body type. Figure required me to force a width that just wasn't there. Don't fight your genetics, work with 'em!

The confidence you exude in the poses is key for both. Practice, practice, practice until it feels like second nature. Even if the pose isn't 'perfect', a confident presentation can elevate your score.

For Bikini, it's really the front and back poses, with specific quarter turns. They want to see symmetry and flow. No hardcore muscle flexing like Figure. It's more about the 'look'.

Don't forget the walk and transitions! Bikini especially judges how smoothly you move between poses. It's not just holding the pose, it's how you get there.

This is often overlooked, but Figure competitors can be penalized for being *too* lean, almost dry, like a bodybuilder. They want muscle, but also femininity. It's a fine line.

@StageSavvy, that's a brilliant point about Figure and dryness. Judges don't want to see a female bodybuilder, they want a *figure* competitor. There's a distinction in muscle fullness and leanness.

I'd suggest hiring a posing coach if you haven't already. They can identify which category suits your physique best and teach you the nuances of each pose. Game changer, honestly.

My coach always said to pick the division where you feel most confident on stage. That confidence shines through more than any tiny flaw in your physique.

For Figure, the relaxed pose is still very structured, hands on hips, lats flared slightly. Bikini is hands-free, more relaxed, often a 'hip pop' and a smile. Big difference in the initial presentation.

I saw someone try to do Figure poses in a Bikini show once... it didn't go well. Know your division's requirements inside and out!

It's all about the 'x-frame' in Figure: wide shoulders, small waist, flaring quads. Bikini is softer, more about overall aesthetic appeal.

Mandatory poses for Figure include front double bicep, back double bicep, side chest, side tricep, and abdominal & thigh. Bikini is just front pose, back pose, and quarter turns.

@MuscleMeccaCrew, not quite right for Bikini. It's more about four quarter turns, hitting that 'trophy pose' at each turn, rather than just a front and back. Still no direct muscle flexing though.

I'd look at photos from recent shows in your federation. Sometimes there are subtle differences in judging emphasis even within the same division.

Consider your footwear too. Clear heels for Bikini, typically more substantial heels for Figure. It impacts your stance and how you present.

I feel like Bikini has become more competitive over the years, with girls coming in more conditioned. The 'soft' look is still there, but definition is increasingly rewarded.

Agreed, @Lurkers. The lines are blurring a bit, which makes the choice even harder for newcomers like NorthernLass. It's not as clear-cut as it used to be between the divisions.

Ultimately, NorthernLass, watch videos of both divisions from your specific federation. See which body type and posing style you genuinely resonate with. That's your best bet.
