I know the Smith machine gets a lot of hate in the bodybuilding community, but I have seen some massive guys using it for squats lately. They say the stability allows them to focus purely on the quads without worrying about balance.
I have been giving it a go for the past two weeks and the quad pump is unlike anything I have felt with a free barbell. I can place my feet further forward and really sit deep into the squat. It feels like it is hitting the lower part of the quad perfectly.
Is there any reason to avoid it if my goal is purely aesthetics? I am not a powerlifter so I do not care about my 1 rep max on a free squat. I just want big legs for when I go to the beach in the summer. What is the consensus here?
