I recently rolled my ankle playing basketball and everyone told me to use the RICE method. However I have been reading some newer articles claiming that is the rice method outdated for sports injuries. Some people are saying that ice actually slows down the healing process by reducing blood flow to the area.

They are suggesting a new protocol called PEACE and LOVE which focuses more on movement and avoiding anti inflammatory drugs. I am confused because I have always been told that ice is the gold standard for swelling. I have been using a bag of frozen peas for the last two days but the swelling is still there.

What do you all think about this? Is the science changing on how we handle acute injuries? I want to get back on the court as fast as possible so I am curious if I should stop the icing and start some light mobility work instead. I would love to hear from anyone who has tried the newer recovery methods.
