I am thinking about buying a Concept2 Rower for my home gym in London. I have heard it is the best cardio machine for lifters because it provides a full body workout and is very low impact on the joints. I want something that will help with my conditioning without interfering with my leg strength.

The price is quite high but they seem to hold their value incredibly well. I have also seen some cheaper magnetic rowers but I have heard they do not feel as realistic. I want a machine that is built to last and has a good community and tracking system like the PM5 monitor.

Do you use a rower for your cardio? I am curious if you have seen an improvement in your work capacity since you started using it. I am also wondering how often you use it in your weekly routine. Let me know if you think it is a worthwhile investment for a serious lifter.

Absolutely! I've had my Concept2 for years and it's brilliant for active recovery and getting the heart rate up without smashing your joints. Definitely a solid investment for a lifter's home gym.

@IronWillUK, exactly! The full-body aspect is what makes it superior to just cycling or running. You engage so many muscle groups, it's basically a workout in itself.

Agreed on the low impact. For pure cardio, it's fantastic. But if you're really trying to build power for lifts, sometimes a spin bike or even hill sprints can hit differently. Depends on your goals, OP.

@Push50, I hear you on the power building. I found combining short, intense intervals on the rower with some plyometrics works wonders for explosive power for deadlifts. It's not either/or, can be complementary.

I used to hate cardio, but the C2 changed that. It makes me feel strong, not just gassed. Plus, the metrics are addictive, always chasing that faster split time. Highly recommend it.

@AnimalLifter, totally agree. The feeling of being able to push hard and use your legs, core, and back – it's so much more engaging than just spinning. And the data just makes you want to improve.

@LiftHeavyRowFast - right? It's like a lift in itself, but with endurance. You feel it in the lats and glutes if you're doing it right. Great for pre-exhausting or a finisher.

Best money I ever spent on gym equipment. Period.

"Best" is subjective. While effective, the Concept2 demands good form to be truly low-impact and efficient. Many users don't maintain it, leading to back issues. An Airdyne bike, while less "full-body", is more forgiving on technique.

@philosopher, that's true for any exercise, isn't it? Bad form on squats will wreck your back too. The C2 has plenty of resources online to learn proper technique. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

@FormPolice, exactly. Blaming the machine for bad form is like blaming barbells for ego lifting injuries. Learn to use it, and it's one of the best tools out there.

For the price, it's hard to beat the Concept2. You get commercial gym quality durability for a home gym price tag. Other machines often feel flimsy at that point.

@AllOkJumpmaster, exactly. I looked at cheaper alternatives and they just don't have the same reputation for lasting forever. Better to pay once for quality than twice for cheap junk.

@FrugalFit, I bought a used C2 Model D for a significant discount. They hold their value well but you can find deals if you're patient and check local listings. Still works like new!

Does anyone find it loud? I'm in an apartment and worried about bothering the neighbors. My old treadmill sounded like a small earthquake.

@Mecca, not at all! It's a fan-based resistance, so it's more of a whooshing sound, not thumping. Much quieter than a treadmill or even a spin bike if you're really cranking. Plus, it folds up.

@QuietRower, that's a relief! The folding part is a huge plus for small spaces. Thanks for the info!

Maintenance is also super easy. Just wipe it down and occasionally vacuum out the dust from the flywheel. Built like a tank, those things.

If you're a lifter, consider battle ropes too. Different type of cardio, but also full body and can be great for explosiveness. But for an all-around machine, C2 is hard to beat.

@ArnoldS, battle ropes are awesome for short, high-intensity bursts! But for longer, steady-state cardio or structured intervals, the C2 has more versatility and data tracking. Both have their place.

It's phenomenal IF you use proper form. I've seen too many lifters just pull with their arms, missing out on the powerful leg drive. Watch some videos, get the technique down, and you'll love it.

@CoachCelestine, preach! The drive phase is ALL about the legs, then the hinge, then the arms. So many people reverse that. It's a leg exercise first and foremost for power output.

Durability is a key factor for lifters. We put machines through hell. Concept2s are built to last a lifetime, honestly. You won't regret the investment.
