I am currently visiting Thailand and I am seeing these massage shops everywhere. I am wondering is thai massage worth it for athletes who are training hard. I have heard that they basically do a lot of assisted stretching and deep pressure work which sounds like it could be great for my tight hamstrings.

I am a bit nervous because I have heard it can be quite painful and that they use their feet and elbows to get into the muscle. I am wondering if it is better for recovery than a traditional Swedish massage or a deep tissue session. I do not want to end up more sore than when I started.

Have any of you tried a real Thai massage for your sports recovery? Did you feel a significant improvement in your range of motion afterwards? I would love to hear your thoughts before I book an appointment. I want to make the most of my time here and keep my body feeling good for all the walking!
