I see everyone at the gym doing band walks and glute bridges before they start their squats. I am wondering is glute activation necessary before leg day or is it just a waste of time. I have heard that if your glutes are not firing properly then your lower back and knees will take all the load.

I have tried a few of these movements but I am not sure if I am actually feeling a difference in my main lifts. I am already quite tired by the time I get to the squat rack if I do a long warm up. I want to maximize my muscle growth but I also want to protect my joints from injury.

Do you guys find that a specific glute warm up helps you stay injury free? I am curious if you have any favorite quick drills that get the glutes going without taking twenty minutes. I would love to hear your thoughts on whether this is an essential part of a leg day routine or just a fitness trend.
