I have always done some static stretching before I start my lifting sessions but I am hearing that is dynamic stretching better than static before lifting. Some people say that static stretching can actually reduce power output and make the muscles less responsive during heavy sets. I am worried about my strength numbers dropping.

I have started trying some arm circles, leg swings, and bodyweight squats as a warm up instead. I find that I feel more ready to lift but I am not sure if I am missing out on the flexibility benefits of static work. I have heard that static stretching should be reserved for after the workout when the muscles are warm.

What is your pre workout routine like? Do you find that a dynamic warm up makes a difference in your performance? I am in Canada and I am always looking for ways to optimize my time in the gym. I would love to hear your thoughts on the best way to prepare for a heavy session.
