I have a Concept2 at home and I am wondering is a rowing machine good for active recovery on my rest days. I love the fact that it is full body and low impact but I am worried that it might be too taxing on my lower back if I am already tired from deadlifts. I usually just do a very easy twenty minute row at a low stroke rate.

I find that it helps get the blood moving to my legs and back without making me feel exhausted. However I am not sure if a stationary bike would be a better choice for pure recovery. I want to keep my fitness up without interfering with my strength gains. I am in the US and I use my rower quite often.

Do you guys use the erg for your light days? What kind of intensity do you stick to so that it remains an active recovery session rather than a hard workout? I would love to hear how you integrate rowing into a balanced training program.
