I'm with the 'no' crowd on this one. If you're doing a *long* off-season, you want to maximize time in a surplus for muscle growth. Interrupting that with cuts, even mini ones, just slows the overall process down. Better to control the surplus more tightly from the start.

@ShreddedSam, how do you manage to stay lean then? Do you just eat at a tiny surplus, or are you just genetically blessed? For many, a 'tightly controlled surplus' still leads to some fat gain over 6+ months.

@RockyBuilder, I don't mean 'stay shredded,' but I aim for a very small surplus (100-200 cals max) and incorporate diet breaks at maintenance rather than aggressive mini-cuts. It's a slower game, but I prefer it to the rollercoaster.

Just finished my first mini-cut and honestly, I feel amazing. Lost 5lbs, abs are peeking through again, and I feel super motivated for the next phase. +1 for mini-cuts!

@ShreddedSam, that makes sense. A diet break is definitely less stressful than a full mini-cut for some. It's all about individual preference and what you can adhere to long-term. Thanks for clarifying!

From a physiological standpoint, maintaining a healthy body fat range is beneficial for hormone sensitivity and nutrient partitioning. Letting body fat get too high can lead to diminishing returns on muscle growth, making future gains harder. So, yeah, mini-cuts can be a strategic tool.

@PowerPump, any studies you can point to on the diminishing returns aspect? I'd be interested to read more about the specific body fat percentages where that really kicks in.
