I have found that a standard foam roller is too soft to get into my deep glute muscles and my rhomboids. I have started using a lacrosse ball instead and it is significantly more intense. I am looking for how to use lacrosse balls for deep tissue massage safely and effectively. I do not want to cause any bruising or nerve damage.

I have been putting the ball against a wall and leaning into it to target my shoulders. I am also trying to sit on it to get into my piriformis. I am wondering if there are other areas where a lacrosse ball is better than a roller. I have heard it is great for the arches of the feet as well.

Do you have any favorite positions or techniques for using these small balls? I am also curious how long I should stay on one spot before moving on. I want to get the most out of my mobility sessions without overdoing it. Any tips from fellow masochists who love deep pressure would be great!
