I do not have a fancy foam roller but I have a heavy wooden rolling pin in my kitchen. I am wondering how to use a rolling pin for muscle recovery on my quads and calves. I have seen some athletes use a similar tool called a muscle stick to roll out their legs after a workout.

I am a bit worried that the hard wood might be too much for my muscles. I am wondering if I should wrap it in a towel or something to provide some cushion. I am in the US and I am looking for a budget friendly way to get some of the benefits of self massage. I find that my legs are always tight after my daily runs.

Do you think a rolling pin can be just as effective as a dedicated massage tool? Or am I just going to end up with bruises? I would love to hear if any of you have used household items for your recovery routine. I am all about finding simple and effective solutions for my health!
