How to Use a Muscle Scraper for Recovery
I have been seeing these metal tools being used for IASTM or muscle scraping and I am curious about the benefits. I am looking for how to use a muscle scraper for recovery at home. I have some chronic tension in my forearm and my Achilles that I cannot seem to fix with a foam roller or a ball.
I have heard that scraping the skin can help break up scar tissue and increase blood flow to the area. I am wondering what kind of lubricant I should use and how much pressure I should be applying. I do not want to end up with a lot of bruising or skin irritation. I am in Canada and I am looking for a way to manage these nagging issues on my own.
Have any of you tried muscle scraping at home? Did you find it more effective than other forms of self massage? I am interested in hearing about your results and if you have any tips for a beginner. It looks a bit medieval but if it works I am willing to give it a try!
