I just bought a load of old rusty weights from a local yard sale in Essex and I am looking for the best way to restore them for cheap. They are quite orange but the structure seems solid underneath.

I have heard that soaking them in vinegar or using a wire brush can do wonders. I want to get them looking like new without spending more on cleaning supplies than I did on the weights themselves.

Does anyone have a step by step guide on how to repaint them so the finish does not just chip off? I am also worried about the rust inside the sleeve of the barbell. If you have any tips for a budget restoration project please let me know!
