I am about to order a custom leather belt and I am terrified of getting the sizing wrong. I want to know how to measure for a perfect fit powerlifting belt so I do not end up with something that is too big or too small. I have heard that you should measure around your belly button rather than your waist.

I am currently in a growth phase in Vancouver so I want to make sure there are enough holes to accommodate some weight gain but also some weight loss when I start my next cut. Should I aim to be in the middle of the hole range?

Does anyone have tips for getting an accurate measurement? I am using a flexible tape measure but I am not sure how tight I should pull it. I really do not want to deal with the hassle of returning a custom item. Any advice on the best way to ensure a perfect fit would be greatly appreciated.
