How to Break Through a Bench Press Plateau for Intermediate Lifters
I have been stuck at 225 pounds on my bench press for about three months now. I am following a standard push pull legs routine here in Ohio, but the weight just will not budge. I have tried increasing my calories, but it seems I am only gaining fat rather than strength.
Has anyone tried adding board presses or floor presses to their routine to help with the lockout? I have heard that focusing on triceps can be a game changer for intermediate lifters who are struggling. I do not want to change my whole program, but I am getting very frustrated with this lack of progress.
What worked for you when you hit your first major wall? I am considering switching to a more powerlifting focused program like Calgary Barbell or something similar. I would love to hear any advice on specific assistance work that helped you break through.
