I have lost about 60 pounds over the last year and while I am thrilled with my progress I am starting to notice some loose skin around my stomach and arms. It is really affecting my confidence especially now that I am closer to my goal weight.

Is there anything I can do to help my skin tighten up naturally? I have heard that staying hydrated and using certain creams can help but I am not sure if that is true. I am also making sure to lift weights to fill out the space with muscle.

Has anyone here dealt with loose skin after a big transformation? I am in the US and I am considering consulting with a professional but I would like to try some natural methods first. I would love to hear your experiences and any advice you have for someone in my position.

Congratulations on the amazing weight loss, SkinnySarah! It is a common challenge. Building muscle can definitely help fill out some of that space. Do not be discouraged, your health journey is inspiring! πŸ’ͺ

@HealthNutUK, that is solid advice! I have seen a lot of people make great progress by focusing on strength training after significant fat loss. It makes a huge difference to body composition. πŸ’―

Definitely agree with the strength training point. When I lost a significant amount of weight, my arms looked a bit

I went through something similar after losing 70 pounds. Time and patience are key. It took a few years for my skin to tighten up naturally quite a bit, especially on my arms. Hydration also plays a role! Keep drinking that water. πŸ’§

Collagen supplements are often recommended for skin elasticity. While they are not a miracle cure, some users report positive effects over time. Worth looking into alongside your diet and training. πŸ₯©

I have heard mixed things about collagen, @AnimalLifter. Has anyone here had actual noticeable results with it for loose skin specifically? I am always a bit skeptical about supplements for things like this. πŸ€”

@FitFanatic, I did try collagen for about six months. I think it helped a *little* with the texture, but did not make a huge difference to the actual looseness. It might be more effective preventatively, perhaps. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Remember to consider your age too. Younger skin tends to have more elasticity and can bounce back better. If you are older, it might take longer or require more targeted interventions. Either way, keep up the amazing work! πŸ™Œ

Do not overlook proper nutrition! Ensuring you get enough protein and healthy fats supports skin health and elasticity. It is not just about calories in and out, but the quality of your diet. πŸ₯‘πŸ—

@philosopher, great point on the diet! Any specific foods you would recommend for skin elasticity? I am always looking for ways to optimize my nutrition. πŸ₯¦

@LeanLiving, for skin health, focus on foods rich in Vitamin C (citrus, bell peppers), Vitamin E (nuts, seeds), and Omega-3 fatty acids (fatty fish like salmon, flaxseeds). These are great for collagen production and overall skin integrity. 🐟🍊

Topical creams promising to tighten skin are mostly snake oil, in my experience. They might moisturize and temporarily improve the *appearance*, but do not expect real structural changes from a lotion. Save your money. 🚫

Totally agree with @Milligan. I wasted so much money on those

The speed of weight loss can impact this too. Rapid weight loss often leads to more pronounced loose skin compared to a slower, more gradual approach. It gives your skin less time to adapt. Something to keep in mind for future maintenance. 🐒

Has anyone considered non-surgical body contouring options? Like radiofrequency or ultrasound treatments? I have heard they can help with mild-to-moderate skin laxity, but they are quite pricey. Worth the investment? πŸ€”

@BodyGoals, I looked into those! They are definitely an option for some. My dermatologist said they are most effective for modest tightening, not for significant amounts of loose skin. It really depends on the individual case and how much skin you have. Consult with a professional first. 🩺

@Jayne_Scott, that is good to know. I was hoping for a magic bullet, but it sounds like it is still a nuanced approach. Thanks for the insight! πŸ‘

Surgery (abdominoplasty, brachioplasty, etc.) is the only definitive solution for very significant loose skin. It is a big step, but for some, it is life-changing for their confidence. It is a personal decision to be made with medical advice. ❀️

@admin, I am definitely considering surgery down the line if nothing else works. The thought of it is a bit daunting, but the confidence boost would be huge. It is good to know it is a valid option. πŸ™

@ProgressPro, I felt the same way about surgery. It is a big decision. Just remember to prioritize your mental health and confidence alongside the physical aspects. You have achieved something incredible! πŸ₯³

Make sure you are not just losing fat, but also gaining muscle. The added muscle mass can really help to fill out some of that skin, particularly in areas like the arms and thighs. Keep lifting heavy! πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

Another thing to think about is body composition. Sometimes what looks like loose skin is actually still a bit of stubborn fat. Continuing to lower your body fat percentage might help reveal a tighter look. It is a long game! 🎯

@CutCarbsCarl, that is a very valid point. I know for myself, I sometimes confuse the two. It really emphasizes the importance of consistent training and diet even after hitting your initial weight loss goals. Thanks for the reminder! πŸ‘

Ultimately, embrace your journey! Loose skin is a badge of honor, showing how far you have come. While you can work to mitigate it, sometimes acceptance is also part of the process. You are doing great! ❀️
