I have been getting a weird shooting pain down my arm whenever I do overhead presses. I am looking for common overhead press mistakes that cause nerve impingement because I think I am doing something wrong. It feels like a stinger that lasts for a few seconds after I lock out the weight.

I have noticed that I tend to arch my back a lot when the weight gets heavy. I am wondering if I am pinching a nerve in my neck or shoulder. I am also trying to make sure I am not shrugging my shoulders too much at the top. I have heard that keeping a neutral spine and a tight core is essential for a safe press.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am curious if you had to change your grip width or if you switched to dumbbells for a while. I really want to get a strong press but not at the expense of my nervous system. I would love some technical advice on how to keep the movement safe and effective!
