I decided to do a little experiment and track my weight and calorie intake every day for a month to find my true TDEE. The online calculator said I should lose a pound a week at 2000 calories but I actually only lost half a pound.
This means my maintenance is about 2250 instead of the 2500 the website predicted. It goes to show that these formulas are just a starting point and you have to adjust based on real world data.
Has anyone else done this kind of deep dive? It was a bit tedious to weigh everything but it gave me so much confidence in my plan. I am curious to see if other people have found similar discrepancies with the standard calculators.
