Hey everyone,

I'm deep into my current bulk, aiming for about a 500-calorie surplus, and honestly, I'm getting a bit bored with the same old flavours. Chicken, rice, and broccoli is great for macros, but after a few weeks, it's just... dull. I'm trying to stick to clean eating as much as possible, so drowning everything in sugary sauces isn't really an option.

I've been experimenting a bit with things like smoked paprika and garlic powder, but I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface. What are your go-to spices or seasoning blends that really make your bulking meals more exciting without adding a bunch of unwanted calories or unhealthy ingredients?

Specifically looking for stuff that works well with chicken, lean beef, rice, and potatoes. Any secret weapon spices or even homemade dry rubs you swear by? I'm in the US, so anything readily available at a standard grocery store would be awesome. Cheers for the tips!

Smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder are my holy trinity for chicken and rice. Game changer for making it feel less like diet food and more like a meal. Also, don't sleep on a good quality curry powder! 🍛💪

@AnimalLifter, preach! The smoked paprika is seriously underrated. I throw it on everything, especially roasted potatoes or sweet potatoes when I'm bulking. Adds such a nice depth. 🔥

For me, it's about exploring different cuisines. Mexican spices (cumin, chili powder, oregano) for chicken and rice bowls, or a good homemade jerk seasoning for something with a kick. Don't be afraid to add a bit of healthy fat too, like avocado oil or a dollop of Greek yogurt for creaminess. It really helps carry the flavour. 🥑🌶️

@ZenithRogue, you mentioned jerk seasoning - any specific brands or a quick recipe you'd recommend? I've been wanting to try that but sometimes pre-made blends have too much salt. 🤔

Beyond just dry spices, consider marinades. A simple soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and a touch of honey marinade can transform chicken or even lean beef. Let it sit for at least an hour, or overnight for max flavour. Also, fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley at the end make a huge difference in brightness. 🌿🍯

@CoachCelestine, totally agree on the marinades! My go-to is a simple lemon, garlic, olive oil, and dried oregano for chicken. It tenderizes it nicely and gives it a Mediterranean vibe. Also great with fish. 🍋🐟

@Jayne_Scott, that lemon-garlic-oregano sounds banging! Do you use fresh or dried oregano for that? And any specific ratio for the lemon to oil? Wanna try it this week. 🙌

Honestly, people overthink it. Just good quality salt, black pepper, and maybe some cayenne. The flavour comes from how you cook it, not just dumping a spice rack on. Pan-searing for a good crust works wonders.

Buying spices in bulk at ethnic markets saves a ton of money and they're usually fresher. I make my own taco seasoning and Italian blends. Way better than store-bought. A good grinder for whole spices is a solid investment too. 💰

Just add more hot sauce, fam! If it burns, you won't even taste the blandness. Kidding... mostly. But seriously, Sriracha or Frank's can save anything. 🔥🥵

Thanks for all the amazing suggestions everyone! This is exactly what I needed. I'm definitely going to try the smoked paprika and the lemon-garlic marinade. You guys rock! 💪 Planning to hit up an ethnic market for some bulk spices too. My tastebuds (and muscles) thank you! 🙏
