I find that the hardest part of dieting is eating dry chicken and rice. I am looking for some low calorie condiments and sauces to help make my meals more interesting without adding a ton of calories. I have been using a lot of hot sauce and mustard.

Are there any specific brands that you recommend for things like low calorie BBQ sauce or salad dressing? I have tried some of the Walden Farms stuff but I find the taste a bit chemical. I am in the US and I have seen some G Hughes sauces that look promising.

What are your favorite ways to flavor your food while on a cut? I am trying to keep my meals as tasty as possible so I do not feel deprived. Any suggestions for homemade low calorie sauces would also be great. I really need some more variety in my life.

Hey SauceBoss, I totally understand the struggle! My go-to is always Sriracha or any hot sauce. Zero calories and a huge flavour kick. You can put it on almost anything. πŸ”₯

@Push50, that is a great suggestion! Do you have any specific brands of hot sauce you prefer that are low in sodium? Some can be quite high. πŸ€”

@jimmywells1988, for low sodium hot sauce, I usually go for Cholula or Tabasco. They are pretty good and do not have a crazy amount of salt compared to some other brands. Just check the label for specific varieties! πŸ‘

Greek yoghurt mixed with herbs and a bit of lemon juice makes an amazing low-calorie dip or sauce. It is creamy and full of protein too. Great for chicken or salads. πŸ₯—

@AllOkJumpmaster, I second the Greek yoghurt idea! Sometimes I will blend it with a bit of avocado for extra creaminess and healthy fats, but that ups the calories a bit so depends on your macros. Still, a fantastic base. πŸ™Œ

Mustard! Yellow mustard, Dijon mustard, spicy brown mustard... most are extremely low in calories and add so much flavour. I use it on everything from sandwiches to roasted veggies. πŸ’―

Have you tried salsa? Not the creamy kind, but a fresh tomato-based salsa. It is packed with flavour and very few calories. Good for adding moisture to dry chicken. πŸ…

Liquid smoke is a game changer for me. A few drops add a smoky, BBQ flavour to anything without adding any calories. Be careful not to overdo it though, it is potent! πŸ–

Do not forget spices! A good Cajun seasoning or a lemon pepper blend can transform bland food without adding any liquid calories. Dry rubs are underrated. 🌢️

@Dragustav, that is a solid point. I make my own spice blends sometimes, like paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, a pinch of cayenne, and some dried herbs. Much better than store-bought for controlling sodium. πŸ§‚

What about sugar-free BBQ sauces or ketchup? I have seen a few brands pop up lately. Are they any good, or do they taste too artificial? I am always hesitant. πŸ€”

@Milligan, I have tried some sugar-free BBQ sauces, and it really depends on the brand. Some are fantastic, others have that weird artificial sweetener aftertaste. Read reviews before buying if you can. Look for ones sweetened with stevia or erythritol if you want to avoid sucralose. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@philosopher, yes! The Walden Farms pancake syrup is a staple for my diet breakfasts. Their salad dressings are decent too, though some can be a hit or miss flavour-wise. Worth trying out to see what you like. πŸ₯ž

Vinegar! Balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar... they all add a sharp, tangy flavour without calories. Great for salads or deglazing a pan after cooking chicken. πŸ‡

@Lurkers, absolutely! I am a big fan of rice vinegar for an Asian-inspired flavour, or even a good quality white wine vinegar for a lighter, brighter taste. The acidity really cuts through fattier meats if you are having those, too. πŸ₯‚

Making your own sauces can be the best way to control calories and ingredients. A simple blend of low-fat cottage cheese, a bit of water, herbs, and spices can be an amazing creamy sauce. πŸ˜‹

Another vote for mustard! Yellow mustard is virtually calorie-free and adds a nice tang. Good for dipping chicken or even mixing into tuna. 🐟
