I am planning a hiking trip to the Rockies this summer and I need a new pair of boots. My old ones are way too heavy and they always give me blisters on longer trails. I am looking for something lightweight and breathable since it will be quite warm.

I have been looking at brands like Salomon and Merrell. I have heard that trail runners are becoming more popular for hiking, but I am worried about not having enough ankle support on rocky terrain. Is a mid-cut boot a good compromise?

I also want something that is waterproof but still allows my feet to breathe. I have had Gore-Tex boots before that felt like I was wearing plastic bags on my feet. Has the technology improved much in 2026?

What are your go-to hiking boots for summer? I would love to hear your recommendations for something that is comfortable right out of the box and does not require a long break-in period.
