Best Footwear for Deadlifting Barefoot vs Flats vs Shoes
I am in a constant debate with myself about the best footwear for deadlifting. I have tried going barefoot in my garage gym but it gets too cold in the winter. I have used Converse Chuck Taylors for years because they are flat and stable but I have seen some people using dedicated deadlift slippers.
I have heard that the closer you are to the floor the less distance the bar has to travel which makes sense. I have also seen some people using wrestling shoes for the extra grip. I want something that has a very thin sole but still provides enough traction so I do not slip on the platform.
What is your preferred deadlifting shoe? Do you find that a dedicated slipper actually makes a difference in your pull? I am looking for the best footwear for 2026 to help me hit a new personal record. If you have tried different styles please let me know which one gave you the most stability.
