My old kitchen scale just died and I am looking for a replacement. I want something that is accurate to at least one gram and has a clear display that does not get covered by a big plate.

I have seen some fancy ones that connect to your phone via Bluetooth but I am not sure if that is just a gimmick. Does anyone have a scale they really love? I do not mind spending a bit more for something that will last and is easy to clean.

I am in the US so I am looking at brands like Ozeri or Escali. If you have any recommendations for a solid reliable scale let me know! I use mine multiple times a day so it is a pretty important piece of kit for me.

For anyone tracking macros seriously, a good scale is non-negotiable. I have been using the Etekcity Food Scale for years now, and it has been incredibly reliable. It is precise to 1 gram, has a large enough platform for most plates, and the display pulls out, so it is never obscured. Highly recommend it! πŸ’ͺ

@A4tech, I have seen the Etekcity recommended quite a lot! Does the display pull out far enough for large salad bowls or just standard plates? That is my main concern as I eat a lot of big salads. πŸ₯—

@ArnoldS, the Etekcity display on mine pulls out about 2 inches, which is usually enough for most large dinner plates. For a huge salad bowl with a very wide base, it might still be a little tight, but for standard large bowls, it is fine. It is a good feature though! πŸ™Œ

I completely agree that accuracy is key. My biggest pet peeve is when the display is hidden by a dinner plate. It makes tracking so much more frustrating. I am looking for something with a backlight too, as my kitchen lighting is not the best. Any recommendations with that feature? πŸ€”

@MacroMike, the Etekcity does not have a backlight, unfortunately. It is clear in decent lighting, but if your kitchen is dim, that might be an issue. However, the display is quite large. πŸ‘

I am a fan of any scale that does not drain batteries quickly. My last one seemed to need new batteries every month! Is there a brand known for good battery life? I do not want to be stuck in the middle of weighing my chicken. πŸ˜…

@BatteryBoss, that is so true! I had a cheap scale that ate batteries like crazy. I switched to the 'GreaterGoods Digital Food Kitchen Scale' and it has been great. Battery life is solid, and it has an easy-to-read display. It is also accurate to 1g. Highly recommend! πŸ”‹

Just got the Ozeri Pronto digital kitchen scale and it is amazing. Super slim design, easy to clean, and the display is large. I have not had issues with large plates covering it. Plus, it is pretty affordable. For the price, it is a winner! πŸ’―

Does anyone use a scale that connects to a phone app? I feel like that would streamline tracking macros even more. Weigh the food, send the data directly to MyFitnessPal or something similar. Is that a thing or am I dreaming? 🀯

@TechTrainer, yes, smart scales are definitely a thing! I have the 'Renpho Smart Food Scale' and it connects to their app, which then syncs with MyFitnessPal, Apple Health, etc. It has a massive database of foods and makes tracking super easy. It is a game changer for sure! πŸš€

I am looking for something super sleek and minimalist for my kitchen. Functionality is important, but aesthetics matter too. Any suggestions for a good-looking scale that still performs well? I do not want a bulky, industrial-looking thing. πŸ˜‚

@DesignDiva, if you are looking for sleek, check out the 'Nicewell Food Scale'. It is all tempered glass on top, very thin, and looks really modern. Cleans easily too. The display is bright and clear, and it is accurate. It is great for a contemporary kitchen! ✨

Just a general tip: make sure whatever scale you get has a tare function. It is absolutely essential for weighing multiple ingredients in the same bowl or weighing food in a container. It saves so much time! ⏰

@TareMaster, you are absolutely right about the tare function. It is a must-have! I cannot imagine trying to track accurately without it. It is the first thing I look for in a scale. πŸ’―

I prefer scales that use regular AAA or AA batteries. Those button cell batteries are a pain to find sometimes when you need them urgently! Does anyone else have this preference? Just curious. πŸ€”

@BatteryBoy, I am with you! Regular AAA or AA batteries are so much more convenient. My 'Accuweight Digital Kitchen Scale' uses AAAs and they last forever. No more hunting for obscure battery types! πŸ”‹

What about durability? My old scale gave up the ghost after a small fall from the counter. Are there any scales that are known to be a bit more robust or drop-resistant for clumsy people like me? πŸ˜…

I need a scale that goes up to at least 5kg or 11lbs. Some smaller ones max out around 3kg and that is not enough when I am batch prepping meals for the week. Any recommendations for higher capacity models that are still accurate? πŸ₯©πŸ₯¦

@BulkPrepper, the 'OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Food Scale with Pull-Out Display' handles up to 11lbs (5kg) and is very accurate. It is a bit pricier, but the build quality and the pull-out display make it worth it for larger items. It is my go-to for meal prep. πŸ”₯

Just jumping in to say that I have found the greatest accuracy comes from scales with a single, large weighing surface rather than multiple small sensors. It seems to distribute weight more evenly. Purely anecdotal, but it is my experience. 🀷

@PrecisionPaul, that is an interesting observation! I have always wondered about the mechanics. My current scale has four little feet that seem to be the sensors, and it sometimes gives slightly different readings if an item is not perfectly centered. I might look for one with a more solid surface next time. Good point! πŸ€”

I am looking for a scale that is easy to clean. Spills happen often in my kitchen, especially when handling raw meat or sticky ingredients. A smooth surface without too many crevices would be ideal. Any suggestions? 🧼

@CleanFreak, the tempered glass scales are fantastic for easy cleaning! I have the 'Etekcity Digital Food Scale' (not the pull-out display one, but a different model with a glass top) and a quick wipe with a damp cloth is all it needs. No crevices to worry about. πŸ™Œ

Consider the units it measures too! Grams and ounces are standard, but some scales also offer ml for liquids, which can be surprisingly handy. Always check the available units before buying. πŸ“

For anyone on a budget, the basic 'Amazon Basics Digital Kitchen Scale' is surprisingly good. It is accurate, has a decent display, and a tare function. It is no-frills, but it gets the job done for precise food tracking without breaking the bank. Sometimes simple is best! πŸ’Έ
