Benefits of PNF Stretching for Increased Flexibility
I have been reading about Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation or PNF stretching lately. I am curious about the benefits of pnf stretching for increased flexibility compared to just regular static holds. It seems like the contract-relax method is supposed to trick the nervous system into allowing a deeper stretch.
I have tried a few variations with a partner but I am wondering if it is possible to do it effectively by yourself with a strap. I am trying to improve my hamstring and hip mobility for my deadlifts. I have heard that it is much more effective than traditional stretching but it also carries a higher risk of injury if you are not careful.
Do any of you use PNF as part of your regular routine? How often do you do it and have you seen a significant increase in your range of motion? I am looking for a way to break through my current flexibility plateau so I would love to hear your advice!
