I am just starting out with my strength training in London and I am wondering if lifting shoes are necessary for beginners squatting. I have seen a lot of people wearing them at my gym but I have been just using my regular running shoes. I have noticed that my heels tend to lift off the floor when I go deep.

I have heard that the raised heel on lifting shoes can help with ankle mobility and allow for a more upright torso. However they are quite an investment for someone who is just starting. Would I be better off just putting some small plates under my heels for now?

Is there a point where you really need to buy a dedicated pair of shoes? I am currently squatting sixty kilograms and I want to make sure my form is correct before I move to heavier weights. I would love to hear your thoughts on whether I should bite the bullet and buy some now.
